How to Clean your Shower Head

If your shower head is not spraying out water evenly throughout the entire surface of the shower head, the supply ports on your shower head could be clogged.  Over time, mineral deposits can build up on your shower head and completely close off some of the shower head ports.  There are a couple of different ways to clean your shower head.  The easiest way to remove the deposits is to get a plastic bag, rubber band, and white vinegar.  First, take the rubber band and wrap it around the shower arm, which is the pipe that connects the shower head to the pipe behind the wall.  Fill the plastic bag with vinegar and put the bag over the head and wrap the rubber band around the neck of the bag so it’s secure.  Allow the shower head to sit in the vinegar for about an hour.  Take a toothbrush or equivalent and scrub the ports until clean of the mineral deposits.  If you want to go the extra mile you can poke the holes with the end of a paperclip to loosen the deposits.  Turn on your shower and let the debris in the ports wash away.  When completed, take a rag and wipe down the shower head.  The last step is to polish the head with a soft cloth to make it shine.  If you have any questions or your shower is not operating properly, give us a call at 718-720-4980.
