Preventing Clogged Drains

A clogged drain is something that nobody wants to ever deal with. They become an annoying and expensive problem that can be easily avoidable. With some proper maintenance and routine checkups, you can prevent problems like this from occurring.  Here are some simple and helpful tips to prevent clogged drains from happening:

  • Clean them- If you have the time you should try to clean your drains every week or so. Clean out any debris that shouldn’t be there.  For your shower or bathtub drain, you want to try and remove the drain and clean out all the debris and hair with a long-bent wire or any other device you can use to pull the garbage out. By doing this you won’t have to worry about having any clogged drains.
  • Drain Cleanser- You can use any bacteriological drain cleaner for all the drains in your household. You want to make sure you find a cleanser that’s also non-corrosive to avoid any plumbing problems in your home.
  • Watch what you put down your drain- Sometimes people may put things down the drain that can cause a clog such as grease, coffee grains, hair and other products. You want to make sure that if you are using any of these products you either rinse your drain very well with warm water, vinegar, or baking soda. Many people use an old coffee container for cooking grease instead of dumping it down the drain to prevent clogging drains.
